Community is everything at the start, it’s the ripple effect tha will turn into a wave. A community will get you so far and then hopefully once your community is big enough hopefully they will start spreading your content for you.

Looking outside your market place is a good way to do it, for instance today I have contributed to photography, meditation and even travel websites.

Community is much larger than the people who see your site, it’s the people who use the internet!

I find SEO pretty tedious which is why I make use of plugins like SEO platinum. I also have one that will check for broken links and another that will search for similar posts so I can paste those links at the end. If it wasn’t for those plugins I wouldn’t be doing much SEO at all.

You’re right that deep linking (linking to other posts within the site) is absolutely a key tactic for SEO; one that is often overlooked.

I also want to add the importance of relationships with other bloggers. These indirectly will lead to inbound links to a blogger’s site, which is a critical component to establishing credibility in not only the visitors’ eyes but also search engines’ eyes.

Personally, I put little value on comment links any way, they are not “natural” and I think SE’s can tell the difference. I comment on “do-follow” (really no such thing, just means has been removed, the term do-follow is slang). But there seems to be a community in this “do-follow” movement in comments and I like that. I put do-follow and coommentluv on both my sites to encourage comments mostly because they are new sites.
