Link Baiting Tactics – Build Links the Easy Way

Written on November 13th, 2009 by bloggerino shouts

Link baiting is a new vibe tactic for getting back links for your website. The main idea is to provide extremely attractive content that other people will want to link to. First, I will tell you why you need link baiting. Second, I will provide ideas for good link bait.

Importance of Link Baiting

Before SEO was quite easy. You could just submit your websites to directories and see the ranking of your site grow in search results. Now it is not that easy, because search engines have algorithms for finding out which links have true value.

Search engines prefer organic and natural links, that have different titles. You can try to fake it but it is very hard. You must change your inbound link titles all the time, link to inner pages etc. By creating link bait you can seduce people to link to your articles and create links naturally. Search engines will love it.

Ideas for Link Bait Articles

1. Be the first with the Article
Simply be the first to write about something. The first one at something gets always the most links. The article will often be thought as the authoritative article although other articles may have better content.

How to Get Backlinks with Blog Comments

Written on November 3rd, 2009 by bloggerino shouts

Blog commenting is an easy way to get readers and visitors to your blog. You can only get a small amount of visitors directly with your comments, but the amount of indirect visitors can be quite huge. This happens when you comment on dofollow blogs, that pass on link juice.

How it Works

When you write comments on blogs, you are often allowed to set the URL of your blog on the comment-form. The name field is normally used as the anchor text for your URL. When your comment is visible, your “name” is displayed with a link back to your site.

Getting Started

First, you need to find blogs where to comment

These blogs should be related to the content of your own site, to maximise the possible gains from the links. When the other blogs content is close to yours, it means that readers clicking through to your site will probably be also interested in your content. The other upside is that google rates relevant backlinks higher, than unrelated ones.

Second, start commenting like a madman ;)

Blog comments are often moderated, so make only relevant comments. Do not spam. Think beforehand what your anchor text will be, to maximise the gains in search result rankings. Use an anchor text, you presume people to use ,when they search for content in your site.

Vital Points to Remember

Staying organised

Write down all the blogs that you find, so you can check back on them, and write even more relevant comments. I use google docs to store my list of blogs I comment on. It is the best way, because I use several computers, and therefore I hate storing files locally.

Comment only on dofollow blogs

Dofollow blogs carry on link juice and you should maximise the amount of comments on these blogs. Firefox with the nodofollow plugin will help you a lot when spotting which links are dofollow. The plugin shows with colors which links are dofollow and which are nofollow.

Finding Dofollow blogs

To tell you the truth, finding a good amount of dofollow blogs will take some time. I suggest that you manually find all the blogs where to comment. If you use lists that other people have made, there is a great possibility,  these blogs are already overrun with comments, and they will lessen the impact of your own comments. Only way to be the first one commenting is to find the blogs first. You can use any search engine to find dofollow blogs, here is a simple tutorial with using technorati

Step by Step Guide with Technorati

  1. Go to technorati and try to find other blogs that have the same content as your blog.
  2. Visit these blogs with the firefox plugin nodofollow active.
  3. Find a page that has comments.
  4. Verify if the comments are dofollow with the plugin.
  5. Write down the blog if it is a dofollow blog. If not find another one.

Conclusion

  • Try to find the blogs yourself.
  • Do not use other people’s dofollow blog lists, because blogs listed are often spammy.
  • Comment often to get a lot of backlinks
  • Finding dofollow blogs requires a lot of effort, but it is worth it.

Getting Started With Link Building

Written on October 21st, 2009 by bloggerino shouts

Introduction

This article is about link building. There are two main ways to build links. One is passive link building and the other one is active link building. In active link building you are active in building links. You contact other webmasters, submit your site to directories etc. Passive link building is a way where you do not ask or do anything to get links. Both of these ways are needed and next I will tell you why.

Passive link building

Content Writing

Writing content and namely quality content is the most important way to get traffic.  When you write usable posts to your site,   people will link to your posts and give others the opportunity to find you. When you start writing content decide to be the best. Offer value for your readers and try to approach issues from different angles to provide insight.

If your blog does not have good content people will have no reason to link to your posts. Write good content to provide reasons for linking your site. Do not rely solely on the good content of your site because in the beginning you need to get your site know in some way. This involves active link building that is talked about below.

Active Link Building (My Top 4)

Social Bookmarking Sites

Add your sites and posts to Digg, Reddit and Delicious to help people to find your site. Not all of the links from social bookmarking sites are counted as real backlinks, because they use the nofollow tag in links. If you do not now what are nofollow links and their effect, then look at my article on the difference with dofollow and nofollow links.

By adding your pages to these services you will get some backlinks to improve your search result ranking. You may also get some traffic from direct visitors by the nofollow links.

Directory Submissions

Directory submissions are a great way to get backlinks to your pages. You can write the anchor texts for some of these services, so think carefully what will you use. Pay attention to the description what you write because it will either get you visitors or push them away. Here is my list of the most important free blog directories:

Link Exchanges

Link exchanges can get you more visitors. It works so that you contact other webmasters to make the link exchanges. You can either contact them directly(email, messenger etc) or you can use message boards and forums to ask for the link trades. I have used digitalpoint forums myself to contact people and do link trades. It is probably the most popular forum used with small to medium site webmasters.

There are some note worthy things about link exchanges.

  • Check that the link you get is a dofollow link
  • Trade only links with sites that have similar content with your site
  • Do not trade links with sites that do not have much content

Blog Commenting

Often you can add a link back to your site in blog comments. You can get started by finding blogs that have similar content to your site and visiting them often to add comments. Do not spam in comments or your comments will be deleted. Write comments that have actual content and a point to have a good possibility in getting your link visible.

Some of the blogs have dofollow links in their comments. Dofollow links are links that will help you get better ranking in search engines. Check out Mathew Simiana’s great dofollow blog list

Conclusion

In link building you need active and passive link building. In the beginning you need to emphasise active link building to get the first readers for your blog. As your site gets more know you can stop the active link building, because other people will post links to your site on these services and you will get links automatically.
