I am not that excellent in keeping my schedules 100%, however I am working on it . This post is written just as much as a reminder for me as it is a guide for all you. Now I’ll start with the things that you should consider planning:

Posting Interval

Time for research

Having a backlog of posts and ideas

Time for interaction

Planning for failures

Blog Post Interval

Have a preplanned blog posting interval. The keyword is preplanned. Do not try to wing it is much as I do. Make a decision right away to have a schedule. It may be every day, every other day or twice a day. Just make a decision and stick to it like glue.

When you have a preplanned schedule it forces you to stick to it. It even helps you to write beforehand if you have a fixed post interval. Read more of writing with the perfect post interval.

Plan for Failures

Guess what, you will not make all your deadlines and posting schedules. You may get sick or have something unexpected to mess around with your time table. That is why you should plan to fail sometimes and have a backup. You can do this by having a backlog of posts.

Post backlog

You should a have a backlog of posts for at least five days in the future. At this point I have zero. It means that I am basically screwed when I am too busy to update this blog. This is something that I am working on right now. The more posts you have pre-scheduled, the more leeway you have for unexpected events.

Scheduling Time for Other Stuff

Besides just writing blog posts, you need time to do other stuff. The two main things are to schedule time to do research and interaction with others. By research I mean to think of future blog posts and find out new ideas.

For interaction with people twitter is the best, but to be more efficient with it I think one must make a schedule. If you do not have a schedule then you will wind up tweeting always and have less time to do the actual work. Answering the blog comments is also an excellent way to interact and you should schedule a time for it.

You can combine the interaction and research partly by being an active commenter on other people’s blogs. When you comment, you have to read the posts from other people and you can learn new ideas in the process.

Conclusion

Making schedules is the key ingredient in online success. If you have no schedules you will wind up, with getting less done than you should. If you need help with scheduling, you can just ask me and I’ll try to help.

This is a question that has puzzled many people in forums and other places. Even people in the happy land of Twitter have been wondering about it. How much you should post varies by many factors. It all depends.

Optimizing for Readers

If you want a successful blog, you should focus on optimizing your post interval to fit your readers. In my opinion keeping a constant writing interval will bring in the best amount of readers. When you keep a constant update interval, then people will come to your site regularly to check back on how you are doing.

There may be some days that you have the drive to write several posts. If you write for on average a post a day normally, then I would cache part of the posts and published them at a later date. Never publish 5 posts one day and then 0 posts on the next five days. As long as your update interval is regular, you will get readers to come back. As an aim I would keep to write a post every single day. It is enough to show people that you are regular blogger that is worth following.

The type of your blog matters . If you have a tech blog, you must always keep writing about the new gadgets etc. There probably isn’t an upper limit for writing posts in a forum like that. For a personal blog, I would never write a lot more that one post a day, because frankly I do not believe that people will be that interested. Never bore your readers by writing posts that are nonsense. Only write when you feel like it and never just in order to post something.

Optimizing for Search Engines

Search engines love fresh content and often updated web sites. SEs spider sites with a certain interval. My sites get spidered about once every day. To always keep fresh content handy for SEs, I try to update daily. On the other hand, if you have a large site that gets spidered more often, you probably should update even more to maximise the SEO effect.

SEO is not something that you should focus on. Keep the focus on writing good content, that people will want to read constantly

Conclusion

If your posts have content and the updates are regular, there is no maximum amount of posts that you can write in a day. Key points:

Post regularly

Do not post nonsense and write just for the sake of writing

Try to write at least on post per day to keep people interested
