You can paint lively pictures in people’s minds and deliver them feelings of enjoyment. It is important to know, that your attitudes also show in your texts. They come through from your texts from little innuendos like adjectives, sentence structures and such. This post describes the attitudes and thought patterns that will 100% sure make you write better.

Attitudes

I like people

All people who are great writers, like people. The liking comes through in all writing. This concept can be easily explained, when you like people you tend to think how will people feel when they read your text.

Even subconsciously you are thinking, will people like the text that you are writing. If you like people, you will never want to offer bad writings to people.

I am positive

A positive mental attitude shows from your writing in a second. When you are positive, you tend to write more positive posts and less of negative ones. Do you like to read negative or positive texts? – Of course positive. Be positive and you will be a magnet for readers.

I am not all knowing

Having authority in your writing is good, but over doing it is a blunder. You must understand that your texts are your ideas and not the god given thruth. When you leave some room for debate people tend to comment more and take part in your community.

Thought Patterns

What do my readers like to read?

When you are trying to come up with topics to write about, you should think what your readers will be interested in. Why should you write about things that only you are interested about? You are not the reader, think about the average reader and the things they are interested in.

How could I make this text better?

Constantly thinking about how could I improve, makes you find ideas how to better your texts. Texts are not just made so that you write them and that’s that. No one can write a great text by just writing it once, you have to analyse the text afterwards and improve it. This improvement phase is the most important phase in writing.

Writing takes time and I am willing to invest

Yup, you know it, I know it, we all know it. If you want to write well, you must take the time to do so. You can not write an article in 30 mins and expect it to be a success, although it may sometimes happen. Usually all the best texts have been written, read, and rewritten. Be willing to invest your time in the writing and do not expect to be an overnight success.

Conclusion

Mindsets, attitudes, and thought patterns help you keep your focus in the right aspects. By cultivating the mentioned thoughts will make you a better writer, it is guaranteed. The most important concepts are,

Attitudes

I like people and my readers.

I am positive.

I am not all knowing.

Thought patterns

What do my readers like to read?

How could I make my text better?

Writing takes time and I am willing to invest.

What do you think about the subject of having the writer’s mindset? What thoughts make or brake your articles?

If you are already a great writer in the offline world, for example magazines, you need to adjust a bit when writing online content. Do not be afraid, online content writing is quite easy. Most of the differences relate to articles being easy to read and skim. Biggest differences are in the structure, but there are also textual differences.

Structure Differences with Online and Offline Articles

Online articles are shorter
It is common that online articles have only 200-500 words per article. In magazines articles often have a thousand or more words.

Online articles have shorter paragraphs
People online have shorter time spans and people often search quickly for answers. This means that concentrated posts are better. Short paragraphs are easy to read.

Links and embedded content
In online articles you can add links and other embedded content to make your article more interesting. In the offline world you can only use pictures.

Textual differences

Online articles are more informal
Normally the tone in online articles is more informal and the articles are more subjective. Writers can express their own opinions more freely in online articles than in offline articles.

High points are often highlighted
Often, noteworthy points are highlighted to help finding the essence of the article.

Online articles contain lists
Lists are easy to read and to comprehend. That is why online articles have a lot of lists.

Conclusion

Online articles are easy to skim and read fast.

Maximise the ease of your readers to be a good online writer

Write the essence and nothing more

Following ideas reveal what a good article should look like and what you should keep in mind while writing. This list should be thought as a checklist for article writing.

Catchy Title
Title must seduce your reader and also summarise the article in a few words.

First paragraph must be enticing
Make the first paragraph so good that people want to continue reading. Do not let your readers down from the upbeat that you set in the title.

Good grammar
Keep the grammar clean and always spellcheck. Errors in grammar are an instant turn off.

Be concise
Say things with as few words as possible. Do not babble.

Interesting content
Content must be something interesting to your readers and it should be put in a way that captures attention.

Short paragraphs
Write only short paragraphs. Long paragraphs are boring and they do not keep the attention of your readers.

Keep it informal
Write in an informal way to make your article more friendly. Most people who read articles online do not like scientific approaches to subjects. Conversational tone is much better.

Use humour
Humour captivates people by making them feel good. Try to spice up your article with a few good humorous comments.

Keep your audience in mind
Think about what is your audience and what will they probably be looking for. Make the tone fit your audience and deliver appropriate content.

Conclusion at the end
Write a short conclusion to recap the essence of the article. Attach some related links to give your readers more information on the subject.

Conclusion

These tips provide a starting point for a great article. Remember to KISS (keep-it-simple-stupid): be consise and write short paragraphs. Make the reader sorry the article has ended

Another great article

Introduction

For me every time I start writing I feel energised. Writing is a great way to express yourself and put your mark on the world. I have prepared this article so you would not trip on you first steps. Some things just must be considered when writing such as the title, structure and grammar. They make the foundation of your article.

Titles and Headings

When someone sees the title of your article, he quickly decides that is the information usable for him and does he need to read the whole article. Title must describe the article and it should not be misleading. Misleading titles make readers feel betrayed for you not delivering what you promised. This may lead to the reader leaving your site and never coming back! Value your readers by providing titles that nail the point of your article.

On the web there are many great articles about writing good titles. One of my favourites is Lorelle on Wordpress’s article: Writing Effective, Attention-Getting Headlines and Titles on Your Blog. The article defines many fine points about choosing titles and headings. If you do not want to read the whole article read at least the part about Writing titles to atract readers. It is golden.

Headings in a post are also important, because they provide readers the content in a glance. Some people just skim through pages and only read stuff that directly relates to their reading goals. This makes heading writing important. Good headings show readers also the structure quickly so the article seems more easy to read.

Structuring Text

Text you write must be structured so that readers find it easy to read. When starting think of the structure that would be suitable for your article or post. If you know that there are some specific areas to cover, then use them as your headings. In my opinion the structure should be the following: Introduction, “data” chapters and finally the summary.

Introduction should provide a short and precise description of the article and some motivation why the article should be read. Actual information chapters can contain what you like in the order you choose, but order the chapters in someway that makes sense. Summary at the end is a self explanatory recap of the article. Summary should not provide any more information on the subject that was not present earlier in the article.

Grammar and Spelling

Think of grammar and spelling being like a clean table at a restaurant. It shows at a glance that you are a professional and you know what you are doing. Remember always to check spelling before you publish. The cleaner the spelling and grammar are the more people will respect your writing. Make good grammar your calling card!

Summary

Here are the fine point of this article

Title is important because it either attracts or pushes people away.

Good structure makes articles easy to read.

Always check spelling and try to write with good grammar
